The University of Edinburgh PRENCOG (Preterm Neurodevelopment Cognition) research programme is a series of studies aiming to discover how and why premature birth affects the developing brain. The findings will help to develop new treatments to help children who are born early.
As part of this research, the PRENCOG team needed to recruit families and babies to follow their cognitive development as they grew. The study requires questionnaires and activities, but also samples and MRI scans, which can be daunting for new parents and young children. Working alongside designer Chris Brodt and motion designer Craig Barbour, I was tasked with creating 2 explainer videos targeted at families that were considering participating.
We wanted to make the information as straight forward as possible, clearly explaining what parents and children could expect to happen, and in a very warm and friendly way to set their minds at ease. The illustration style was simple and rounded but filled with friendly characters that parents and children could see carrying out the activities.
