The Love to Read programme by University of Edinburgh's Literacy Lab aimed to research theories and principals to foster a love for reading in children. The programme then developed classroom activities and ran the programme in schools, evaluating the effects.
Working with designer Chris Brodt of Fella design studio, I created a suite of illustrations representing the 6 principals of the programme (access, connection, choice, social, time, success) which were then used as posters in schools and within teacher resources. The scenes depicted children using reading as a portal, the line-art style of reality transforming into the bold richly rendered worlds of their imaginations.
The Literacy Lab then collaborated with Liverpool Hope University to cater the programme for reception age children. This required a suite of new illustrations, featuring younger children and a softer style.
